Machi Neko 3 Exhibition

After the first Machi Neko (Town Cats) photo exhibition in 2007, I was invited to participate again in this year Machi Neko 3. Thanks, Maggot! If you’re in Japan and will be around Osaka, please stop by and see the exhibition on this wonderful little gallery. It will be open from 27 October – 8 November 2009.

公開グループ展『町猫3』

今年もやります、町猫。
町の中だけでなく、外でうろちょろしてる猫を生け撮りしましょう。

「ボクはね、写真家だから猫は逃げないんだよ」（中平卓馬）

武田花さんに『猫・陽のあたる場所』(木村伊兵衛賞受賞作)という写真集があります。 その序文に唐十郎が 「みな抱くことにある種の苦痛を感じさせる風態であることに気づきはしないか。抱かれることをむずがり、抱かれない哲学を胸に秘めた猫だから。」と書いています。

花さんの猫の写真は猫の写真であって猫の写真でない、などというと誤解をまねきかねないのですが、猫のいる町を、猫のフィルターを通して町を見、そしてもう一度、大好きな猫を、抱けないまでも「暗箱」に捕らえたい、そのような思いが伝わってきます。

congrats again eric! i remember how i saw your photos last time my wife & i went to osaka. maggot’s a very cool fellow. do hope i could get to visit him again someday.

thanks, mario! ah yes, you’re in osaka back in 2007. i also hope to visit maggot someday. must be nice to be in the land of manga, sake, sushi, ramen, and not to mention a lot of stray cats :)

thanks, yo. it will be nice if i can do stray dogs next. alas, stray dogs are really hard to find here. most of them end up as dishes. i can’t imagine people eating the real hot dogs.
